FAI - PEPFAR 5 BORDER COMMUNITY HIV-AIDS CAMPAIGN PROJECT IN PIXS
The FAI-PEPFAR Media Program on HIV-AIDS for 5 border communities of Ilogbo, Oko-Afo, Ibiye, Mowo and Magbon in the Badagry LGA of Lagos State
is waxing stronger by the day. The project which took off in the second quarter of 2005 with a Media Tour of the target communities and project hot spots, followed by a formal inauguration has since taken its media-based Campaign through the 5 target communities. Only on Wednesday, 23 November, 2005 the people of Magbon stood still for its edition of the program and ended with a good dose that featured the regular ‘Discuss’ and a specialty that came by the topic: Nutrition for People Living with HIV-AIDS, a discussion that was led by FAI’s Nutrition Specialist, Mrs. Olaitan Yinka-Balogun. The Magbon Campaign rounds up the first phase of the project which has seen the folks better educated on matters of HIV-AIDS and offered the opportunity of VCT services at the communities. The high-point of the VCT is the mobile Bleeding Unit that’s become a critical component of FAI’s campaign in the target communities. In essence, the folks who voluntarily desire to get tested after the regular counseling are bled on site (Campaign Location) and samples taken to the Laboratory for testing. Results are delivered one on one to individuals after post-test counseling. This has worked quite well as the folks are happy with the fact it guarantees confidentiality.
