FAI's Inaugural
Ceremony for the PEPFAR Media Project on HIV/AIDS Awareness for 5
Border Communities in the Olorunda Area of Badagry LG in Lagos
State held on Wednesday, 24 August 2005. The 5 Border communities
are:
Mowo, Oko-Afo,
Ilogbo, Magbon and Ibiye.
This event took place
at the Auditorium II of the Adeniran Ogunsanya College of
Education, AOCOED, Otto Ijanikin. The Special Guest of Honour was
Dr. AOK Noah, The Provost of the College and he was ably
represented by his Deputy, Mr. Ajose Adeogun.

Mr. Funsho Olamigoke, Project Coordinator, Families ALIVE
International.
Mrs. Feyi Olamigoke,
delivered the Welcome Address, where she gave a brief background
of FAI. She also gave an overview of what the PEPFAR project was
about and why these communities deserve to be the case study. She
also stressed the fact that
Folks need to
understand the dreadfulness of the HIV/AIDS and the need for each
one to know his or her status. "They need to know a whole lot more
about the virus and the condition, these they will get from the
oncoming campaigns, they should be expectant", she said.
A Special lecture on
HIV/AIDS in Border Areas - The Nigerian Experience, was
given at the ceremony by Mr. Femi Esan, a Monitoring and
Evaluation Specialist. The Keynote address was delivered by the
Deputy Provost, Mr. Ajose Adeogun.
A Drama group from the
Theater Arts Department of the college performed a drama bit
titled, AVOID ME. This bit showcased real life scenarios
based on regular occurrences at the the border areas and
communities.
T-shirts and face
caps, as well as flyers that provided information on the
dreadfulness of HIV/AIDS, medium of transmission ,preventive
measures , ways HIV/AIDS cannot be transmitted and the essence of
knowing ones HIV status, were given to members of the audience.
