PARENTS' FORUM

The FAI's Parents' Forum took place as scheduled recently at the Effiong Phillip Akpan Hall, Federal School OF Radiography, Yaba Lagos with a KEY lecture titled Connecting with Your Children".

Ahead of that was a review paper on the High School Lecture Series, High School Youth - Pressure Within and Without. As expected, it offered delegates drawn from all walks of life the opportunity to interact, especially with the younger generation on their day to day challenges of life. It became clear enough that Parents, in particular but also the older generation including school authorities, governments at various levels, religious leaders and organizations, and indeed NGOs all have a lot to do in re-connecting to our younger generation to enable a society where there is only tolerable rates of crime, violence, drugs use, social diseases and the lot.

Recognized also is the fact relevant legislations without infringing on individual's rights should be promulgated and dedicatedly executed to cub the excesses of today's youth and their instigators. Some of these are corporate products such as tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, x-rated video and audio materials, trendy but ridiculously body exposing wears and so on.

Various governments of the world are challenged to draw a reasonable line between tax-related revenue generated from these products and services and the consequences we all have to bear. By the rule of the thumb, it was agreed that governments would economically do better when they seriously check the differences between taxes above and costs of maintaining the peace.
