OLORUNDA LOCAL GOVERNMENT
The Olorunda Local Government area of Lagos
State is one of the 3 new LGs created from the old Badagry LG
originally created by the Federal Government of Nigeria. The two
others are Badagry and Badagry West. Badagry township is an ancient
border town in the South West of Nigeria and so are a number of other
towns and villages in the old LG. FAI's attention on the HIV/AIDS
Media project is focused on five of thirty-five communities of
Olorunda LG. The LG has Hon. Abraham O. Ogabi as its elected Chairman
while each of the 35 main communities has a Community board headed by
a Chairman, known as the Community Development Association (CDA)
Chairman. The development, especially through self help of these
communities are primarily mobilized by these selfless crops of
community leaders. The CDA chairmen all belong to a committee known as
Community Development Committee and that's headed by a CDC Chairman, a
position currently occupied by Chief B.O. Akinyele while Mr. E.O.
Ajose is the LG's CD Officer. On the traditional level, each community
either has an Oba (King) or a Baale (Community Chief) depending on its
status as graded by the State Council of Obas. By and large, a
community that only has a Baale has its Baale reporting to the Oba in
whose domain his community belongs.
In the 5 communities of Ilogbo, Magbon, Mowo, Ibiye and Oko Afo that
FAI is working with, only Ilogbo has an Oba while each of the four
others has a Baale supervised by the Oba of Ilogbo. From time to time,
this page shall bring you progressive stories from these communities
and others on the Lagos-Seme border axis as they come.
